So today, I'm going to be embracing my love for spicy food and Korean food. Yes, I love spicy Korean food. Some of my most favourite korean food include Tteokbokki (떡볶이) - spicy Korean rice cakes, Pajeon (파전) - Korean Seafood pancakes, Kimchi Jjigae (김치찌개) - Kimchi Stew and the list goes on. Come to think of it I should do a whole blog post just on Korean food, please do tell me if you want that cause I'd be more than happy to do so (cause I get a valid excuse to eat more).
After all my rambling, I'm finally gonna reach my main point. Recently, I tried the Samyang Hot Chicken x2 spicy korean noodles. And they spicy as hell. But good as hell too. The package didn't actually convince or even scare me as much as the first one (the first one had a more devilish vibe to it) but you know.. never judge a book by its cover.

In the packet itself, it contained the same things as the first one, the ramen itself, the hot sauce and some sesame seeds and seaweed thing (I tried my best describe it ok). The vegetables you see on the packaging are kind of a lie cause you gotta get it yourself cause there's no sight of green veggie inside at all, but I ain't complaining alright please chill.
The ramen itself is very different from regular ramen and I am totally in love with the ramen like, the other ramen brands need to up your ramen game. Firstly, it is soooo pretty. It's like this pretty, yellow curly goodness (not exactly good for your body but you know.. I'm guilty) and the noodles are thick and bouncy. All I can say is that it is ramen with personality - a personality I like a lot. I expected it to take a long time to boil since it is way thicker than regular ramen but surprisingly, it was just as quick. Talk about convenience. I read somewhere before that the ramen is made thicker than regular ramen to as to absorb the hot sauce more effectively and because it is thicker, the curls on the ramen can better grab(?) the sauce, you get what I mean right?
When I poured the sauce on a plate, it was a very deep and dark kind of red. It was in fact close to black in colour. It did look scary. When I was pouring it on my hand, some actually got on to my fingers by accident so I was like "okay lemme just wash it of" but it actually STAINED my hand. It took awhile to wash off and my finger had an orange-y colour on it. I did not feel my hand burning when the sauce got onto my hand like what many had experienced though, maybe it's just my thick skin.
So here's how it looked after it was cooked and all:

Okay I know, I know, why does it look so dry?? So here's the story, by the time I put the sesame seeds on the noodle and whipped out my phone, the sauce kind of like went to the bottom of the plate (?) and the top just looked really dry and I didn't want to ruin my garnish so I tried my best. But there was a lot of sauce at the bottom of the whole bunch of ramen okay. The noodles are actually orange-y red when mixed well with the sauce. Dude, it even glistens under the light.
This one is definitely spicier than the first version, let's just call the first version "x1" okay I'm tired of calling it first version and given the fact that this is noodles, it would be so weird and inappropriate to call it anything else. Oh and let's call this one "x2".
So when eating x2, the spice kicks in almost immediately along with the same savoury flavour you get in x1 only that in x1, the spice kicks in slightly after you enjoyed the chicken flavour. Also, the after burn of x2 lasts way longer and is a lot more intense. It was really really really spicy, it kind of feels like a forest fire in your mouth that you just can't extinguish. I was frantically looking for water after I finished it and around 10 seconds after you have drunk cold water, that fiery burn comes back again. To all those can laosai easily after eating spicy food, goodluck. But besides all that chaos and fire in my mouth, I really liked the savoury taste in the ramen. Even though it's spicy and my tastebuds cried, it was still a really satisfying. You just gotta keep eating tally finish if not you're gonna feel the burn a lot more, trust me on this one, I know my spice. Fantabulous lunch.
Overall: Taste 9/10
Spice 9/10 - I challenge Samyang to come up with a x3, I'd be so so so so down for it
I really really liked the flavours and the noodles and everything but this isn't something I would eat regularly, for the sake of my health and my intestinal walls. But if you are a spice lover, definitely do take on this new challenge Samyang has released. Perfect for dare devils like me.
I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post. As usual hanks for sticking around, I really appreciate it. Ya'll are wonderful thank you and bye! See you again !
